And continuing education through attendance at national and local educational meetings allows them to be trained in the latest expertise and the most progressive techniques available in cosmetic surgery.
Our philosophy: When you become our patient - you become our
patient for life.
What
is the right age for plastic surgery?
It is not the
question of too old, but whether one is healthy enough to have the
surgery. We always individualize your care. We will work closely
with your physician (s) or medical specialists to develop a surgical
plan that is thoughtful and safe for you.
Your desire to change your appearance is the biggest factor for
when to choose plastic surgery. Younger aged people seem to have
better results due to factors such as better skin resiliency and
healing abilities, but those factors are very individual.
Where
will my surgery be performed?
Our surgical
procedures are performed in a certified surgical facility, which
uses only board certified anesthesiologists. Most procedures are
done under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia and intravenous
sedation can also be used based on patient/physician preference.
What
do we ask from our patients?
To give long
and thoughtful consideration for the surgical plan developed for
you by our practice:
- It is also
significant that you fully understand the purpose and goals of
the surgery.
- That you
become educated and aware of the cosmetic procedure (s) and its
associated risks and complications.
- Have realistic
expectations to make an informed decision to proceed.
How
should I prepare for plastic surgery?
About 2 weeks
prior to surgery, we recommend you discontinue aspirin and aspirin
containing products such as Advil. Certain vitamins and herbal supplements
such as St. John's Wort should also be discontinued prior to surgery.
We recommend smoking cessation and avoidance of all nicotine containing
products for at least one month prior and following surgery to avoid
delayed wound healing. You will need someone to drive you to and
from the surgery center and stay with you for 24-48 hours and after
surgery. For those patients
requesting and needing post op nursing assistance please click
here for additional information regarding extended care.
How
much pain will I have after surgery?
No surgery is
pain free. Surgery involving muscles such as abdominoplasty (tummy
tuck) and breast enlargement (implant under the muscle) are generally
more painful than skin only procedures. The pain is worse during
the first 2-3 days post surgery, with daily improvement in the following
10 days. You will be given pain and other medication to help you
feel comfortable.
For certain
surgeries of the breast and abdomen, we are now able to provide
our patients a new device called a pain pump, which you will wear
at home to reduce pain and decrease the need for stronger pain medicines.
(Please ask us to provide you with further information if you are
interested.)

How
much bruising and swelling will I have after surgery?
Facial bruising
lasts about 10-14 days, body bruising, such as with LipoSelectionSM by VASER®
can last 2-3 weeks. We will discuss with you at your consultation
which herbal medicines will help decrease swelling and bruising.
Swelling varies with each patient and procedure and may be present
for up to 3-6 months.
How
long do I need to recover?
Following surgery
you will have physical restrictions on your activities for several
days to several weeks depending the surgery. Business and social
activities need to be curtailed to give your body sufficient time
for healing. For more involved surgeries such as facelift, abdominoplasty,
and breast reduction you will need to be off of work for 2-3 weeks.
Breast augmentation varies between several days and 2 weeks. We
will discuss with you in detail specific work and exercise restrictions.
Can
I still gain weight after LipoSelectionSM by VASER®?
We are born
with a certain number of fat cells. During LipoSelectionSM by VASER®, fat cells
are removed with the surgery. The remaining fat cells have the ability
to expand or shrink dependent upon the individual's energy reserves.
Thus, you can gain weight if you don't follow a good exercise and
nutrition program. With mild to moderate weight gain following LipoSelectionSM by VASER®,
the fat is redistributed, but the new "silhouette" is
usually maintained.
Will
I still have cellulite or rippling after LipoSelectionSM by VASER®?
The aim and
goal of surgery is to improve one's appearance as it relates to
shape and volume. Depending upon the degree and the magnitude one's
cellulite and rippling prior to surgery, will affect the post -operative
outcome. In mild to moderate cases, the cellulite and rippling is
usually improved with the surgery.
Will
my breast augmentation change after pregnancy?
The number of
pregnancies and duration of breast-feeding may have a profound effect
on the outcome following breast augmentation. Sometimes this may
lead to sagging breasts and/or loss in breast tissue volume. The
timing of surgery as it relates to pregnancy and breast-feeding
should be discussed with your plastic surgeon.
Do
breast implants need to be changed every 10 years?
No, unless one
is having mechanical problems with the implants. We usually do not
recommend the implants be exchanged for new ones.
Do
implants rupture?
Mechanical failure
of the mammary implants is possible. The rate of failure is low
and should be discussed with your surgeon, including the implant
manufacturer's limited warranty.
