Introducing: Selphyl! The Latest in Soft Tissue Fillers

The Selphyl treatment process generally takes anywhere from 10-20 minutes and is most commonly associated with minimal amount of pain, discomfort, and downtime. Selphyl contains a number of growth factors which not only encourage the growth of new collagen but also help re-mold the skin starting from the inside out. Very drastic improvements have been seen not only for all facets of facial aging, but also for patients with prominent acne scarring.

This new injectable products aimed at volumization is prepared in a few simple steps. First, a little amount of blood is drawn out of your vein. Using a centrifuge, your blood is then spun causing the red and white blood cell components to be separated from the platelets and fibrin. In the final step, the platelets and fibrin are joined with a fibrin mixture which creates a platelet rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) that is then injected just below the skin. Although the media is referring to this brand new product as the “Vampire Filler,” we prefer to call it by its trade name, Selphyl.

Botox- Botox®, or Botulinum type A, blocks the nerve impulses that control the muscles responsible for expression lines on our face. Our surgeons use Botox to relax these muscles to improve the appearance of existing wrinkles and prevent more wrinkles from forming. Botox can also be used to correct facial asymmetry or prevent hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating).

Soft Tissue Fillers - Dermal fillers are generally created from naturally occurring substances: Hyaluronic acid (HA), Calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse™), and Poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra™.)  These substances either bind moisture to plump up lines and wrinkles or they leave behind collagen to add volume to the skin.  Our surgeons will inject these substances at varying depths within the skin to fill facial imperfections such as creases, scars, and wrinkles.  Fillers are also used to enhance the volume and define the shape of the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, and hands.  At the Center for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Denver, Colorado, our surgeons choose to inject their patients with the following dermal fillers:

  • Introducing the brand new Juvederm XC. New You Plastic Surgery is proud to be one of the first cosmetic plastic surgery practices in the nation to be able to offer this exciting new form of Juvederm to our patients. The new Juvederm XC has lidocaine infused in it to make your treatment more comfortable. Juvederm XC is available in both Ultra and Ultra Plus forms. Juvederm XC was FDA approved in February 2010 to treat mild to moderate facial creases.

  • Juvederm™(Ultra and Ultra Plus): FDA-approved in June 2006, Juvederm™ treats mild to moderate facial creases (such as the "parenthesis" on either side of your mouth.) Juvederm™ also smoothes and softens the appearance of scars and other depressed areas and plumps and defines the lips.  One treatment with Juvederm™ may last up to one year.

  • Radiesse™: FDA-approved in December 2006, Radiesse™ treats mild to moderate facial creases and wrinkles around the nose and mouth.  Comparable to Juvederm™, a single treatment with Radiesse™ may last up to eighteen months.

  • Restylane™: FDA-approved in December 2003, Restylane™ treats mild to moderate facial creases, replacing lost volume and smoothing wrinkles.  This product is comparable to Juvederm™, and one treatment may last six to eight months.

  • Perlane™ (Restylane™ family): FDA-approved in May 2007, Perlane™ treats moderate facial creases and is designed for deeper injection than Juvederm™ and traditional Restylane™.  One treatment with Perlane™ may last at least six to eight months in most patients.

  • Sculptra™: FDA-approved in August 2004, Sculptra™ was originally intended to treat lipoatrophy (loss of facial fat) in HIV-positive individuals.  Our surgeons also use Sculptra™ in non-HIV individuals to add volume to facial features.  One treatment of Sculptra™ should last about two years.  It generally takes three to four treatments for full correction.
